With the SEC Outdoor
Championships less than a week away, the Florida track and field
teams will send a small contingent of runners and throwers to
Tallahassee for the Seminole Twilight Invitational on Friday and
Saturday.

Can the Gators work out the kinks in their baton
exchanges? At last weekend’s Penn Relays, the No. 4
Florida men’s team and unranked women’s team ran slower in several
relays (compared to its preliminaries times) due to poor baton
work. “We’re still having some issues as far as our baton
exchanges,” coach Troy Holloway said. “That’s on me, and I will get
that fixed.” This weekend should provide time for the Gators’ top
relay teams to get in extra practice, while those who didn’t
compete in Philadelphia, Penn., will get an opportunity to showcase
their skills in competitive action.

Is this the last chance to impress coaches? Most
of the athletes who competed last weekend will be staying in
Gainesville for the FSU trip. However, Holloway still isn’t sure
what his final SEC team will look like, so this weekend’s meet is
probably the last opportunity for runners and throwers to state
their case to be included. “We’re trying to see what our 30-man and
30-women rosters are going to be for the conference meet, so we’re
going to be taking a look at some people as far as that goes,”
Holloway said.

Will the throwers continue to progress? Sophomore
Jeremy Postin has tossed school records in the hammer throw three
times this season, including a personal-best throw of 66.12
meter/216-11 at the Drake Invitational last weekend. Women’s
thrower Keely Medeiros was also dominant with a win in the discus
and second-place finish in the shot put.
