This is in response to Desi Krell’s letter to the editor on Friday, “T-shirt displays offensive messages.” As a supporter of feminist causes, I’m a little more than embarrassed to see that you’ve chosen an establishment that is so non-threatening toward women to attack and boycott. The T-shirt in question shows a woman wearing underwear, which you failed to mention, implying that she was nude. You also completely ignore the fact that the shirt is mocking tentacle porn, which was created in Japan.

You somehow throw rape into the equation as well. There is nothing on this shirt that insinuates a non-consensual act. And I find it interesting that you chose this particular shirt to attack.

Another Laboratory T-shirt reads “Brain like a horse, Hung like Einstein.” Why, Krell, didn’t you get worked up about the objectification of men on the grounds that this shirt makes fun of their less than favorable endowment?

There are so many better things to attack and speak out against in the name of protecting women from degradation — Hooters, for instance, or the Japanese adult industry in general. It’s important that feminists choose enemies wisely. The Laboratory is hardly a target.
