A step show by six members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council on Friday kicked off the Black Student Union’s Unity Fridays, a recurring event to showcase minority organizations working together.
The goal is to feature presentations such as music, dance, food and community service from diverse groups at UF, 21-year-old food and resource economics senior Justin George said.
The first Unity Friday also included tabling by various social and cultural organizations.
Chantelle Lewis, president of the Jamaican-American Student Association and 21-year-old sociology senior, said she tabled to promote her organization. Being at busy Turlington helped with networking.
BSU president and 21-year-old family youth and community sciences senior Bryant Rora has been in contact with 30 different minority organizations for Unity Fridays. They will be held the second Friday of every month and promote cooperation.
“We are all unified in our own organizations but not as a whole,” he said.
