A man and woman flipped their car after fleeing from state troopers on Interstate 75 Monday morning.
Larry Youmans, 22, of Ocala, was accused of driving a stolen 2010 Chevy Equinox, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.
The car was stolen last week outside of Marion County, the report said. Troopers spotted Youmans driving the car northward on I-75 near the Marion County and Alachua County border.
A Florida State Trooper spotted the stolen car and tried to pull it over near the Williston Road exit, the press release said. Youmans did not stop and continued to drive away.
While fleeing state troopers, Youmans hit a car at the intersection of Williston Road and Southwest 34th Street, the press release said. Even after the crash, he continued to drive away, the report said.
Another Florida Highway Patrol Trooper used a technique designed to spin a car out of control, forcing it to stop.
The trooper stopped the chase after the car lost control and landed on its left side, Lt. Patrick Riordan said. Once the car was stopped, state troopers arrested the passengers.
The two suffered minor injuries and were taken to UF Health Shands Hospital, the press release said.
Youmans is charged with fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving and grand theft auto, the press release said.
He is held in the Alachua County Jail, Lt. Riordan said. His bail has not been posted.
