It was a perfect day for Florida’s women tennis team on Friday at the Bedford Cup at the Ring Tennis Complex.

The Gators won each of their nine matches, which included second- and third-round singles, second-round consolation singles and second-round doubles.

Coming off of a loss yesterday, freshman Stefani Stojic looked to redeem herself against her consolation opponent Chinatsu Kajiwara from BCU. Stojic defeated Kajiwara in two sets (6-1, 6-3) to pick up her first collegiate victory.

“It’s definitely a good feeling when you get the W” Stojic said. “My shoulder was sore yesterday, but today I was able to get through it. I was a lot more consistent.”

Aside from her singles match, Stojic also teamed up with Olivia Janowicz in an 8-6 win against USF’s Vera Bessonova and Olga Martinez.

“Playing with Olivia was awesome. We had a great close match,” Stojic said. “We were able to close in the crucial points.”

Kourtney Keegan and Belinda Woolcock also teamed up in doubles where they defeated Courtney Griffith and Courtney Cesarini of UCF 8-2. This was Keegan’s first time on the home courts, and she said she was a little nervous.

“It was our first time out there together,” Keegan said. “I didn’t really know what to expect.”

Keegan also defeated her singles opponent Taylor Hollander of UNF in two sets (7-5, 6-0). Despite the win, Keegan didn’t perform so well in the first set. She trailed Hollander 5-4 and had to quickly find her rhythm.

“I was just a little off with all my shots,” Keegan said. “I had to build my momentum and it ended up going well.”

Belinda Woolcock won both her singles matches today. Like Keegan, she also struggled in the first set of her first match.

“My opponent played pretty well,” Woolcock said. “It took me a few games to get my rhythm then I was able to close it out.”

Coach Roland Thornqvist was also very content with the women’s performance on Friday.

“We played well down the stretch,” Thornqvist said. “Stef played a lot better than yesterday and everyone else played really well. I’m very pleased.”
