Horses, dogs and a two-legged pig named Chris P. Bacon will greet visitors at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine’s open house on Saturday.
The open house, which has been held for at least 35 years, will be at the college’s large and small animal hospitals at 2015 SW 16th Ave. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., said Sarah Carey, the college’s director of public relations.
The event is free to the public and will allow guests to learn about services offered by the college.
“It’s an opportunity for people to kind of see really what we’re about behind the scenes,” Carey said.
The event will include tours of the college and demonstrations involving dogs and horses, she said. Chris P. Bacon, a pig born without hind legs who moves around with a wheeled harness made by a doctor at the hospital, will also make an appearance.
Students interested in veterinary school can attend pre-veterinary school advisory sessions and interact with current students, she said.
Children at the event can participate in a teddy bear clinic, where they can bring damaged stuffed animals for repair.
Alisha Kahn, a 19-year-old animal sciences freshman, said she plans to attend the event to tour the hospitals and learn about her future career.
“I will be able to compare it to other colleges when it is time to apply to vet school,” she said.
