The sounds of roaring motorboat engines and the splashing of water against hard carbon fiber fill the air as Scott Hopkins pulls off a trick at the Southeast Regional Tournament for Collegiate Wakeboarding.
Hopkins, a UF mechanical engineering student, was one of more than 80 wakeboarders and wakeskaters from 11 colleges and universities in the region to compete Saturday and Sunday in Orlando for a shot to go to the finals in the spring.
Regionals determined which teams get to compete nationally against schools from all over the country. The top three teams in each region secured a trip to Boulder, Colo. in May to compete in the Collegiate Sports Television Collegiate Wakeboard Finals.
Hopkins won the Men's Pro Division, the most challenging division in the tournament.
