When it comes to UF swimmers Caeleb and Sherridon Dressel, it’s easy to tell they’re cut from the same cloth.
The Dressel siblings were large contributors to a rout of the Florida State men’s and women’s swimming teams on Friday night at the O’Connell Center, with both swimmers recording wins in two individual events and two relays. Caeleb Dressel placed first in the men’s 50 freestyle and men’s 100 freestyle, while Sherridon Dressel won the women’s 50 freestyle and women’s 100 freestyle. Both were also on victorious teams in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.
In the men’s decisive 209-91 victory over the Seminoles that included 12 individual wins, senior Jan Switkowski followed Dressel’s lead with two individual wins and two relay wins, placing first in the 100 fly and the 200 fly. The Gators swept the podium in seven events during the meet, including the 1000 free, the 100 breaststroke and the 200 butterfly.
For the women’s team, Florida swept the podium on three different occasions and won 10 individual events in its 184-116 win. Sophomores Emma Ball and Kelly Fertel posted B-cut times in 100 back and 200 breast, respectively, while juniors Sydney Sell and Hannah Burns posted B-cuts in the 200 back and 200 IM, respectively.
“Tremendous performance across the board, especially the women,” head coach Gregg Troy said in a release. “We are a little bit ahead of where we usually are at this point in the season, but we still have to go back and evaluate things and try to stay the course.”
The men’s and women’s diving teams, coming off mediocre performances at the Auburn Invitational in mid-December, were once again led by sophomore Brooke Madden. She picked up her fourth win of the season, placing first on the 1-meter board with a score of 270.45. Redshirt senior Dalton Goss placed third on the 1-meter board with a score of 286.35, and sophomore Alex Farrow finished fourth with a score of 263.93.
“I was expecting us to be a little bit more rusty than we were, but there were a lot of good performances there,” diving coach Bryan Gillooly said in a release. “We can still do better, but our focus is on the championship meets coming up.”
The Gators won’t be getting much rest as they face Florida Atlantic back at the O’Connell Center on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
