A Gainesville woman was arrested early Sunday after reportedly crashing into five cars in an apartment complex parking lot while driving drunk.

At about 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Haley Jean Thompson, 21, was leaving the University Commons parking lot, located at 2601 SW Archer Road, when she crashed into five cars parked in front of building B, according to a Gainesville Police report.

She caused more than $9,000 in damages.

A witness told police Thompson had been drinking with a group of friends at an apartment when she got mad and drove away. She returned soon after and told her friends she had crashed into several cars but refused to call police, according to the report.

An anonymous call also reported a woman matching Thompson’s description at a nearby Shell gas station heavily intoxicated and barely able to walk, according to the report.

Police found Thompson in a nearby building, where she admitted to drinking, driving, crashing into the cars and leaving the scene of the crash. She told police she drove to the gas station to buy more alcohol for her and some friends.

Officers charged Thompson with hit and run. She was taken to the Alachua County Jail and released Monday morning on her own recognizance.
