In Friday's edition of the Alligator, the Editorial Board attacked the Florida House of Representatives for passing a bill requiring all women seeking abortions to receive an ultrasound. The Darts & Laurels section called it "another conservative obstruction intended to prevent women from getting abortions."
Since when is preventing women from having abortions such a horrendous act that it warrants attacks from the media? The legislation contains no provisions denying a woman's right to choose as set forth in Roe v. Wade. It is simply a means of educating women so they might make the right decision. It is still their choice.
It is disappointing that the Alligator opposes measures that would reduce the number of abortions in this state. If a woman considering the termination of her preganancy chooses to keep her child, then the law is a blessing, not a "conservative obstruction."
