The Coathangers have been performing together for 10 years, but the band gets just as pumped to play each show as they did for their first one.
The indie punk trio from Atlanta, Georgia, will be playing at the High Dive, located at 210 SW Second Ave., in downtown Gainesville tonight.
The Coathangers consist of Stephanie Luke on drums, Julia Kugel on guitar and vocals, and Meredith Franco on bass and vocals.
While they’ve performed in Gainesville before, Pat Lavery, the owner of Glory Days Presents and High Dive promoter, said the staff looks forward to welcoming The Coathangers to the High Dive for the first time.
Lavery said it’s rare to see all-female bands at his venue or any others in Gainesville.
“We are excited to give a stage to them to empower all ladies out there to play music and start band,” Lavery said.
The Coathangers strive to put on an energetic show, Luke said.
“Sometimes it’s a little humorous,” she said. “We try to have a good time and keep it live.”
They use their music to help the crowd escape real life, Luke said. The band feeds off the energy of the audience.
“I get to do what I love,” she said. “Just getting to look out and see people having a good time to the music that we play — that’s a really good feeling to have.”
While The Coathangers have put out five albums since they formed in 2006, they look forward to performing their newer songs. Luke said she’s a big fan of playing their song “Perfume,” which is off their fifth album, “Nosebleed Weekend.”
Along with touring, The Coathangers have been in the studio recording new songs. The band is signed to Suicide Squeeze Records, an independent record label based in Seattle, Washington. Luke said the band also hopes to tour Europe this summer.
“We’re always trying to keep up with everything,” she said.
Tickets are on sale now for $10 or $12 the day of the show. They are available at TicketFly, Hear Again and the High Dive Box Office.
Doors open at 9 p.m. for the 9:30 p.m. show. Donkng and Average Friend will open the show.
