UF quarterback Tim Tebow was one of 15 players selected as a semi-finalist for the Maxwell Award, the advisory committee for the award announced Wednesday.
The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the nation's top college football player.
Tebow has thrown for 21 touchdowns and rushed for 14 so far this season, and he leads the nation in passing efficiency and the Southeastern Conference in total offense.
With his latest scamper, the sophomore tied a school record for rushing touchdowns in a season and broke the SEC record for touchdown runs by a quarterback in a single season.
BEST EVER?: Coach Urban Meyer has credited return man Brandon James as the main reason for a couple of the Gators' wins this season. Wednesday, he said James was likely the best kick returner he has ever coached.
"I'd hate to have someone give me a call and say, 'Coach, I thought I was the best one,'" Meyer said. "Off the top of my head, he's as good as I've had."
James is averaging 20.7 yards per punt return this season with one touchdown.
While he has yet to score on a kickoff return this season, he is averaging 29.4 yards per return and consistently gives the Gators great field position.
"He's a guy that has a lot of ability back there," Meyer said. "I spend more time with the rules on the guys blocking for him than the guy catching it."
