Gainesville Police arrested a local man Saturday afternoon for reportedly robbing a home in Porters Community along with two other people who have not yet been caught.

Tykey Taran Mendez, 22, of 9515 SW 92nd St., was in a house with two residents, both UF students, and two friends Friday. Just after 2 p.m., two masked gunmen entered the home, which sits on the 600 Block of Southwest Third Street, according to a police report.

The gunmen took five iPhones, a PlayStation 4, two guns, and at least $300 in cash. One of the gunmen kicked a resident in the face, according to the report.

Mendez helped the gunmen search one of the victims and then left with them.

After a cab driver described picking up Mendez and a second suspect about 300 yards from the house, Mendez was arrested at 845 NW Eighth Ave. just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday. During questioning, Mendez gave officers false statements, according to the report.

As of press time, Mendez is being held at the Alachua County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond for five charges of home invasion robbery with a firearm.
