Eleven years later, seven sponsors hosted the second Veritas forum Saturday night.
Veritas, the Latin word for truth, is an international Christian-based program that hosts speakers who discuss the concept of truth, Derrick Hardin, a 21-year-old UF applied physiology and kinesiology senior, said.
On Saturday at 7:30 p.m., UF professor Lonn Lanza-Kaduce and University of Pennsylvania Law School professor David Skeel greeted a crowd of about 150 people at the Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
Skeel, the S. Samuel Arsht Professor of Corporate Law at UPenn Law School, and Lanza-Kaduce, a professor of criminology and law, agreed that justice can be attained in several ways, none of which are wrong.
Skeel said justice is one of the hardest topics to discuss because everyone’s priorities are different.
Perhaps the real issue, Lanza-Kaduce said, is how to stop injustices from happening at all.
“The bigger perspective would probably be exactly how to address what the causes of that (injustice) might be,” he said.
Joe Mueller, a 27-year-old UF alumnus, said he enjoys the way Veritas brings people together and allows them to share their opinions.
“The college campus and college atmosphere is a very special place,” Mueller said. “People from all different cultures and all different backgrounds come together.”
