Police searched UF's campus Monday night for a white male carrying a knife after an incident near Weimer Hall.
A female UF student was walking between Williamson Hall and Weimer at about 9:30 p.m. when she was grabbed from behind, UPD spokesman Maj. Brad Barber said. The man threatened her and attempted to sexually assault her, but she broke away and ran from him.
Barber did not have information regarding any possible injuries that occurred.
The man, who was described as being in his early 20s and wearing a dark shirt and khaki shorts, fled on foot in an unknown direction.
Barber said police are continuing to examine the area. In the meantime, he recommended students use Student Nighttime Auxiliary Patrol vans to travel on campus.
In addition, “anyone who observes suspicious activity is encouraged to report it immediately,” Barber said.
