The Gators haven't allowed a point to their opponents this season, but they also have yet to be tested.
No. 1 Florida (2-0) will take on No. 15 Baylor (3-0) tomorrow in its first true battle of the season.
Following two 7-0 victories against South Florida and Central Florida, the Gators will begin a ruthless month of February against top-ranked teams which include Duke, North Carolina, Clemson and Stanford.
Coach Roland Thornqvist has been satisfied with his team’s performance this season and thinks they are ready to face a tough Baylor team.
“After these two days of play, I’ve been very pleased,” he said in a press release. “We’re at a very good spot now, and I think we’ll be definitely ready for Baylor on Saturday.”
The Gators are trying to extend their dual-match win streak to 25 matches and 110 straight victories at home, which is the longest active home win streak in any NCAA women’s sport.
The last time the Gators lost a regular-season match at Linder Stadium was almost 12 years ago in a 4-3 match against Georgia on Apr. 7, 2001.
Florida holds a 4-0 advantage in the all-time series against Baylor, including a 5-2 win last season.
Baylor is 5-0 at the top three singles positions this season, so Florida won't coast to victory like they have in the first two games.
Freshmen Brianna Morgan and DanielleCollins will have to continue to be bright spots for the Gators if they want to win tomorrow. Collins has given up five points in four singles sets this season, all of which came in one set. Morgan has given up six points in four sets this year.
“I thought we did a good job, our freshmen in particular,” Thornqvist said in a release. “I was worried that our freshmen were not used to it, maybe a little nervous that they would go off on a walkabout perhaps because of the weather, but it turned out they were, perhaps, the two best players [Wednesday], so that was nice to see.”
