Gainesville Police arrested a local man early Friday after he reportedly shoved an officer outside of Balls Bar.

Just after 2 a.m., Damien Lee Fey Gilliams, 22, was outside the bar — located at 1716 West University Ave. — with his father. Gilliams then got in front of a passer-by and threatened to hurt them, according to a police report.

A police officer walked Gilliams away from the bar and told him to leave. But as the officer walked away, Gilliams pushed his chest. The officer then tackled Gilliams and told him to put his hands behind his back, but Gilliams refused and tried to get away. The officer eventually used a Taser on Gilliams after multiple warnings and instructions to stop.

Gilliams was taken to the Alachua County Jail on a charge of battery on a police officer. He was released Saturday morning on his own recognizance.
