A Gainesville woman slapped her ex-boyfriend twice and threatened him with a knife on Tuesday night. When police came, she slipped out of her cuffs and took a swing at one of the arresting officers.

Shameika Perkins, 31, was arrested on charges of felony and misdemeanor battery.

An Alachua County Sheriff’s Office report gave this account:

Perkins and James Steward were separated, but they’d been dating for the past year and were spending time at his house at 252 Bishop Drive. The couple got into an argument about Perkins being too drunk, and she slapped Steward in the face twice. She ran into the kitchen to grab a knife, and Steward ran outside to get away from her.

Deputies arrived and Perkins ran away. They caught her and cuffed her behind her back, but she slipped out of one and tried to punch a deputy. They put her on the floor and cuffed her with smaller restraints. While on the ground, she kicked a deputy multiple times before she was restrained properly.
