UF’s symphony orchestra performs at the University Auditorium on Nov. 14, 2013.

Some of UF’s talented musicians will perform at this year’s Symphony Orchestra concert.

The concert will feature the winners of the 47th Annual Concerto Competition. The showcase is tonight at 7:30 p.m. in UF’s University Auditorium and will be free and open to the public.

The program will include four pieces from renowned musicians: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Henri Tomasi and Ney Rosauro.

“Just having the honor to play this piece with the orchestra is amazing,” said Mary McLean, a 21-year-old UF music senior and one of the winners of the Annual Concerto Competition.

McLean will be highlighted in the Rosauro piece.

“Ney Rosauro was a huge influence on me continuing my career in music,” McLean said. “I’m just absolutely thrilled to show this piece the way it’s intended with the orchestra.”

David Santiago, a 24-year-old UF second-year music graduate student, will be the conductor for the Symphony Orchestra as directed by Maestro Raymond Chobaz.

“They’re great pieces that they play,” Santiago said. “It’s great music.”

Gainesville residents and UF students are expected to attend the performance.

“I’ve never walked away from playing this piece without someone humming to it afterward,” McLean said about her showcase piece.
