Poster discouraging masturbation in dorms not UF-sponsored

New shower shoes won’t be necessary.

A fake poster with the UF Housing & Residence Education logo has been circulating the Web, showcasing a very happy Albert. The image, which illustrates a horny reptile with his hands down his pants, urges students to “Try the Abstaining Alligator Challange.”

The poster asks if students can restrain themselves from masturbating in the shower for at least one week.

However, Sharon Blansett, assistant to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, said the image did not come out of a UF office.

“Given the Internet source of the image (www.imgur.com), this is obviously a spoof message,” she wrote in an email.

UF isn’t the first school to be hit with a fake masturbation notice.

Other schools that had similar memes include Pennsylvania State University, North Carolina State University and Florida State University.

Dylan Sutton, a resident assistant at East Hall, said he has never seen the poster before.

Sutton said masturbating has not been an issue in his dorm showers, and he didn’t think it was a problem in other dorms on campus.

“I think it’s hysterical,” said the 20-year-old UF environmental engineering junior. “I don’t think housing made it, but it’s really funny.”

Sutton said it never crossed his mind how he would handle this situation if it happened in his dorm.

“I pray I don’t have to deal with it,” he said.
