Flavet Field might be getting a double shot of rap in December with Common and Kid Cudi, thanks to Student Government Productions Music & Entertainment.
The SG-funded organization filed papers recently seeking funds for a possible Dec. 4 show.
Common, an established rapper from Chicago, could get paid $45,000 while Kid Cudi, an up-and-comer known for his single "Day 'N' Nite," is currently slated for an estimated $30,000.
The show would be the second major event at the new band shell, which was finished this summer. It hosted a concert at the end of August with Citizen Cope and The Whigs. About 4,000 people showed up.
Allen Johnson, a sports management senior, said he's a big fan of Common and likes Kid Cudi too.
"Common isn't like other artists who use vulgar language in their music," Johnson said. "I think Common is a good representative of the African-American community."
He took issue, however, with the combined price tag of $75,000.
"Hell no," he said. "That is way too much money."
Instead, he'd like to see the money spent on saving a program or a professor's job.
"We need to be putting that money somewhere else," he said.
