Just two weeks after playing for a national championship as a member of the UF men's golf team, Billy Horschel found himself facing a new challenge: the PGA Tour.
Horschel held his own in his first-ever PGA Tour event. He finished the first round of the St. Jude Classic with a score of 1 over par which put him in a tie for 82nd place. However, he is just four shots behind a spot in the top 10.
Just hours before his first PGA round began, Horschel admitted to feeling a little nervous.
"It will probably last for the first few holes," he said, "but I just got to have fun out there."
But if that was the case, it didn't show. Horschel started the day with eight straight pars. He finished with three birdies on the final nine holes.
Some of the best golfers in the world, including Phil Mickelson, are participating in the tournament.
"When you see these guys it's weird because those are the guys you see on television, and now you are playing with them," Horschel said.
He will tee off the second round Friday at 9:48 a.m.
