New digital baseball and softball scoreboards will be up and running for both teams' opening games this week.

The boards have video capability and will replace the ones served the stadium for the last 10 years.

They have undergone testing and will be fully operational for softball's opening game tonight and baseball's on Friday.

Chip Howard, senior associate athletics director, said the old boards were obsolete.

"We couldn't even buy replacement parts for them," Howard said.

The new boards are completely digital and will broadcast color headshots, highlight clips and commercials. The softball boards went up between Jan. 16 and 20, and the baseball boards from Jan. 20 to 27.

The total cost for the boards was $700,000, which came from a $15 million University Athletic Association bond used for renovating various athletic facilities.
