The Gators added another arm to their already talented roster Tuesday.

Pitcher Karsten Whitson, who was drafted ninth overall by the San Diego Padres, elected to play at UF next season.

According to another Gators commit, Johnny Barbato, Whitson rejected the first offer from the Padres. As a result, San Diego raised the signing bonus to $1.4 million, but Whitson still wouldn’t budge.

However, Barbato chose to take the $1.4 million signing bonus to sign with the Padres and pass up on the opportunity to play at Florida.

Whitson struck out 123 batters in 55 innings as a senior at Chipley High School.
