Gainesville Police arrested a local man Wednesday night after police said he burglarized two Gainesville Place Apartments units over Winter Break.

Between Dec. 30 and Jan. 3, Neil Andrew Dortly, 42, stole $1,400 worth of electronics and other property from two residents at the complex, located in the 2800 block of SW 35th Place, according to a police report.

Dortly, who works for the apartment’s cleaning crew, entered the two apartments on a work order. However, he used his keys to unlock two doors that weren’t included in the job, according to the report. Dortly stole a laptop, tablet, Hoverboard, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 gaming system, according to the report.

Both residents said they left their doors locked before leaving for vacation. After returning and finding their property missing, they soon suspected the cleaning crew, according to the report.

On Monday, Dortly sold a resident’s Nintendo 3DS game console to an Archer Road GameStop, according to the report.

Police later searched Dortly’s home and found some of the other missing property, which Dortly’s wife told police she was suspicious of, according to the report.

“We don’t own that — get it out of here,” she said to police.

Police arrested Dortly on charges of burglary, larceny, dealing in stolen property and fraud. Authorities took him to the Alachua County Jail where, as of press time, he remains in lieu of a $130,000 bond.
