As entertaining as television shows can be, there’s always a little bit of a downside. The show ends, and you realize that all of the cute clothes you’ve seen aren’t going to appear in your closet. They are either way to expensive, or you simply don’t know where to look. I know it’s hard out there for a fashion junkie, but here is a way to make it easier.
If you’ve watched "Pretty Little Liars," you know that each of the four main characters have very distinct personalities that are obviously expressed through their wardrobe choices. Aria Montgomery is eclectic, Emily is sporty, Hannah is glamorous and Spencer is prepster chic. Out of these four style mavens, I find Spencer’s look to be the most appealing.
In the past two episodes, we haven’t seen the best of Spencer (give her the benefit of the doubt, she’s going through a serious break-up), but her style has always caught my eye.
Her look is tailored. It’s clean. You can almost see the old money coming through the seams. On a fashion spectrum of Hipster to Prepster, there is no doubt that her wardrobe choices lean toward the preppy side, but I’m not mad about it because it’s never obnoxious.
Spencer’s classic look boarders androgynous chic. An assortment of blazers and cardigans are typical Spencer stables, not to mention her affinity for layering.
Now that we’ve dissected her closet, it’s apparent that her wardrobe can be easily emulated on a college-type budget. All you need are a few basics to tie things together. Go crazy with the cardigans, blazers and button-downs as well as prints like argyle, tweet and stripes.
For footwear, oxfords, and flats (including ballet flats) work best. But if you’re looking to splurge, commandeer a pair of riding boots. Specific stores that match Spencer’s look are Gap, J.Crew and Tory Burch, but you can find these items almost anywhere. It just takes a bit of hunting.
