Nate Rushing, the point of eliminating meat one day a week is not strictly or primarily health related, although you do make some valid points even if you meant them to sound snarky and to ridicule the vegan/vegetarian movement.
Instead, by consuming less meat as a large population, a message is sent to U.S. slaughter houses and meat markets: Their methods and treatment of animals is disgusting and unacceptable.
By the tone of your article, I find it likely you seem fairly apathetic and almost careless of the repercussions of consuming large amounts of meat and animal products.
I’d suggest maybe next time you should educate yourself on the vegetarian movement before publishing ill-conceived agenda.
Even if you personally don’t care, your article does reach others, and it’s unfortunate you aren’t being responsible in your research and what message you’re projecting to others.
After glancing over a few other of your contributions to the Alligator, including last month’s “US legal system fundamentally flawed,” I’m curious as to why this newspaper is taking such a chance on a columnist with an inability to properly research his articles and why it is putting itself so vehemently behind someone projecting such a poor image. Shame on this paper’s editors.
