The UF administration needs to Taser UPD after its recent display of excessive force, poor judgment and downright bullying of unarmed student Andrew Meyer. These "officers of the lawC should be ashamed of themselves.
They abused their power and crushed the spirit of freedom of speech across this campus for years to come. UPD is simply on a power trip.
College is supposed to allow for healthy political discussions. Instead, this incident has cast a dark, disturbing shadow on UF.
UF administrators must take a stronger stance. They cannot allow for some thick-headed officers to set the mood and atmosphere of the campus.
Students must stand up, as well. Favor free speech. Stand on the side of academia. Support Meyer until all charges are dropped, the police officers are relieved of duty, and UF issues an apology to Meyer and every Gator, past and present.
The Gator Nation must be governed in a way that safely promotes the ideals of freedom and security, rather than simply existing in a police state.
