The 2020 college football season may be in jeopardy, but the Florida Gators won’t be caught lacking in firepower when 2021 rolls around.

Five-star cornerback Jason Marshall, 247Sports’ No. 2 cornerback in the nation, announced his commitment to UF on Sunday. Marshall is UF’s first five-star recruit for the 2021 recruiting cycle.

Marshall, who hails from Palmetto High School, had 44 tackles, 15 passes broken up and five interceptions during his 2019 campaign. His decision to go to Florida came as a bit of a surprise, as he had received offers from Alabama, Oregon, Clemson and his hometown Miami Hurricanes, among others.

Marshall is UF’s first five-star after the Gators landed defensive tackle Gervon Dexter out of Lake Wales, Florida, for the 2020 class. Unlike Marshall, though, Dexter committed as a four-star prospect in 2018 and was bumped up to a five-star rating after he signed with the Gators.

In 2021, Marshall could share the field with Dexter and two other five-star recruits in Brenton Cox and Lorenzo Lingard, both of whom are transfers who came to UF after being recruited by other teams.
