Vampires and witches and werewolves, oh my!
A new MTV show is set to join the ever-growing trend of featuring mythological creatures in entertainment.
"Teen Wolf" will debut June 5 at 11 p.m. following the 2011 MTV Movie Awards.
From the "Twilight" saga to "True Blood," many of today's popular movies and shows feature werewolves.
"Teen Wolf" is no exception.
The show is based on the 1985 Michael J. Fox flick, where he plays the iconic Scott Howard. However, it strays greatly from the original.
The new main character, Scott McCall, opts to go shirtless instead of wearing a letterman. Also, the show is more angst-filled - something we should have expected coming from MTV.
Executive producer Jeff Davis told TVGuide.com that MTV wanted to go darker and sexier than the original, something apparent in the commercials that have been playing repeatedly for the last month or so.
MTV.com said the show is "the story of Scott as he tries to walk the line between what he wants and what he can't help from wanting."
The protagonist will have to learn his limitations and how to control himself, especially around love interest Allison.
Audiences will have the chance to decide Sunday whether "Teen Wolf" will be a monster hit or fizzle out like the short-lived show "The Gates," which also featured a menagerie of mythical creatures.
If the show fails to thrive, it might be the viewers' message to TV producers: vampires, witches and werewolves ... enough!
