Two young people were hurt Sunday night when their car hit a tree along Northwest 13th Street.
Gainesville Fire Rescue, Alachua County Fire Rescue and Gainesville Police Department responded at about 10 p.m. when a red car careened into a tree while driving south on 13th Street.
The right side of the vehicle was smashed.
A young man and a young woman were pulled from the car, wrapped in gauze by emergency workers. Both were taken to Shands at UF, said GPD Sgt. David Blizzard.
Blizzard said police did not know what caused the crash.
Traffic was still blocked between W. University Avenue and Northwest Third Avenue as of 10:30 p.m.
Nahomie Sloutier, a 22-year-old McDonald's employee, said she heard a crash and ran outside to see about a dozen people running toward the car.
Tyler McGuire, a UF criminology senior, said he was inside McDonald's when he heard a siren.
"The first thing I heard is the cop car, and all of them came in 3 minutes," he said. "In no time at all."
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
