Freshman Danielle Collins and junior Olivia Janowicz have still not faced the taste of defeat after going a combined 4-0 in their respective matches in the pre-qualifying round of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship. After Saturday, both players are 5-0 in singles matches this season.
For Collins, she has started off her collegiate career undefeated. Collins had a strong showing on Saturday beating No. 87 Simona Parajova of TCU, who is the second top-100 opponent she has beaten this season.
Collins hasn’t needed to resort to winning in dramatic fashion much so far, for in her five singles wins she has only gone to the third set once.
Collins has beaten her opponents by a total of 62-29 games in her first year.
On Sunday, Collins will need to beat Texas’ Elizabeth Begley to compete in the next round of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship.
Janowicz has been just as impressive and also needs to win tomorrow against Iowa’s Ruth Seaborne to advance.
If both win, they will join teammates Alexandra Cercone, Caroline Hitimana and Sofie Oyen in the qualifying round, which is Tuesday and Wednesday in Pacific Palisades, Ca. at 12 p.m.
Collins and Janowicz will look to extend the Gators’ stellar record in singles this fall, which is 18-2.
