With the end of the regular season quickly approaching, the Florida women’s tennis team has had no trouble against top-ranked opponents.

Despite a 19-1 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in Southeastern Conference play, coach Roland Thornqvist said the Gators haven’t actually accomplished anything yet.

That can all change this weekend when No. 2 Florida hosts to two undefeated conference foes: No. 6 Georgia (14-1, 8-0 SEC) today at 5 p.m. and No. 14 Tennessee (15-4, 7-0 SEC) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

“If you don’t enjoy a week like this, you have no business being at Florida,” Thornqvist said. “We’ve got two undefeated teams in the league coming in here, and typically, traditionally they’re the two toughest matches for us each year.”

If the Gators can come away with wins in both matches this weekend, they will be in prime position to clinch the regular-season SEC title.

Adding to the importance of today’s match is Florida’s 99-game regular-season home win streak.

To continue their streak, Thornqvist said his young players will have to be as tough as they have been all year.

“They come to college and they’re amazed at what players are willing to do to win,” Thornqvist said. “Here, you’re not just playing for yourself, you’re playing for Florida, for your teammates.”
