The University Police Department is investigating the disappearance of an elderly man who didn't return home Sunday after dropping off his wife at Shands Hospital that morning.
James L. Woodard, 83, brought his wife to Shands between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a UPD news release.
Relatives told police he had disappeared after he didn't return home.
UPD began its investigation at about 3 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release. Officers searched the hospital and surrounding area but didn't find Woodard.
The agency issued a Silver Alert for Woodard, who was last seen driving a gray Lincoln Town Car, according to the news release. There was a handicapped placard in the car's front windshield and its Florida license plate reads M482SS.
"At this point, we've concluded the active search in terms of the general area but we'll continue to check out any leads that may be coming in during the night," said Maj. Brad Barber, UPD public information officer.
Woodard was wearing blue jeans with a green jacket and hat.
He is cognitively impaired, according to the news release.
