I was disappointed in Ms. Hastings' response to Carly Hallam's Friday column, as it is evident that she attacked Ms. Hallam as a result of her own misunderstanding.
Ms. Hastings clearly missed the column's central theme: coming to realize the important things life has to offer. Ms. Hallam's statement that what she decides to do once she graduates will not be her "reason for living," is not to discount the importance of her education or career, but to assert that she now realizes that her eulogy shouldn't simply read, "She was a great employee." Ms. Hallam's column expresses her view that there is more to life than a job, and that as we mature, this concept simply becomes clearer.
It is unfortunate that Ms. Hastings criticized the column without recognizing the life lesson.
