Caeleb Dressel paced the pool once again and notched his third gold medal of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Friday night.
The former Gator swam a world-record 49.45 time, holding off Hungary’s Kristoff Milak by .23 seconds.
Dressel launched off the diving board with an astounding .60 time off the blocks. He had the lead off the wall at 23 seconds flat, but a long turn allowed Milak to fight back. The Hungarian made it interesting at the end, but Dressel’s long reach touched the pad first.
Dressel won the semifinals with a 49.71 time Thursday, an Olympic record and just two-tenths of a second behind the world record he set in 2019.
The Florida alumnus looks to add to his medal collection Friday in the 4x100 Medley, where he will swim the freestyle portion.
