Career Resource Center teaches how to make good first impressions

You've heard the cliché, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression."

But what should you do to make a good first impression?

Answers to that question were provided Thursday at the Career Resource Center's open house.

Hawaiian music played as CRC staff members in Hawaiian shirts and leis talked to students about their talents and ambitions.

Attendees got the chance to have their resumes critiqued, to get to know the staff and to learn about the center.

The Hawaiian theme was a new twist.

"The theme makes it more interesting," said Amber Miles, a 20-year-old food science and human nutrition sophomore. "It's not just a regular open house with some tables."

The event lasted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

About 100 students and faculty attended the event, said Angel Iverson, assistant director for career events.

"We have all areas of our office represented at the event,"she said.

Civil engineering sophomore Luis Avila, 19, attended the open house Thursday.

He has been to the CRC several times since his freshman year, he said.

"They help you in ways like how to approach a speaker, what to say and what not to say," Avila said.
