Fliering and campaigning for Student Government’s October elections may not have started yet, but the political parties are beginning the process.

The Swamp Party was on Turlington Plaza and the Reitz Union on Wednesday seeking students’ input on which issues they want SG to address this year.

Many students’ suggestions involved safety, security and transportation. Students wrote on the party’s whiteboards that they wanted more covered bus stops, better parking locations on campus and more.

Psychology sophomore Alexia Perkins wanted more buses for routes 20 and 21 during the mornings and early evenings. The 19-year-old said reaching out to get students’ ideas is good because it gives them a chance to express their views before campaigning begins.

“They’re looking at our opinions and saying they do care about us in a way,” Perkins said.

Swamp Party spokesman Daniel Landesberg said party leadership will look at every idea and decide which ones to place on their platform. He said they choose the ideas that are “most feasible and beneficial to the Student Body.”

Dave Bradshaw, the Students Party campaign manager, said his party will be outside today, Friday and the beginning of next week gathering ideas from students.

“We want to make sure we get as many good ideas as possible,” he said.
