After nine years of freelancing and working with Univision and CNN en Español, reporter Dania Alexandrino will come teach at UF.
Alexandrino will start as the Spanish-language news manager for UF’s College of Journalism and Communications on March 20 and will be paid a $73,500 salary, she said. She will work with Noticias WUFT, the Spanish-language radio broadcast agency for WUFT.
While at UF, she will also teach about Spanish-language media in a joint program with the Center for Latin American Studies, Alexandrino said.
“I’m looking forward to creating, to teaching the new generation of journalists to tell stories and be human doing it,” she said.
Alexandrino is the second former CNN employee to be hired by UF since January. On Jan. 6, UF announced former CNN Digital editor Mira Lowe would lead UF’s Innovation News Center.
Alexandrio said although some of her colleagues were confused why she would leave TV news to teach, she sees it as a step forward.
Oriana Bravo, a 20-year-old UF journalism junior, met Alexandrino about a month ago when she came for her on-campus inter- view. Bravo, who co-anchors Noticias WUFT, said she and the mostly female team related to Alexandrino.
Bravo said she looks forward to working with Alexandrino and hearing about her experiences in Spanish media.
“I think she can give a lot of really good advice in terms of career path, especially for our goals in Spanish media. She knows a lot about the industry and the ins and outs,” Bravo said.
