Magician Jason "Escape" Gardner won't be pulling bunnies out of his hat during his performance tonight at the Orange and Brew.
Instead, he will squirm out of a straight jacket and send an entranced audience member back in time to the 1800s.
"Every show has to be unique," said Escape, 39, who lives in Boston. "I'm always changing it up and keeping it exciting, for myself and the audience."
Escape, who was scheduled to perform by Reitz Union Board Entertainment, said he uses about 11 to 12 volunteers per performance.
Escape said he recognizes a change in audience expectations from the days of Harry Houdini.
"You can't just rely on doing a trick anymore," he said. "People require more input, personality and interaction. It's not enough just to hang upside-down."
