Although some die-hard football fans watch the Super Bowl for the love of the game, others watch it purely for the commercials.

Doritos is hosting a competition, the Crash the Super Bowl College Challenge, to see which SEC school votes the most for its favorite Doritos commercial.

Whichever school casts the most votes will win a $25,000 concert on its campus, according a news release about the contest.

Students can vote and watch the contestants’ videos through the contest’s Facebook page. They can vote once a day on a computer and once a day on a phone or tablet until midnight Jan. 29, according to the contest rules.

This is the first year Doritos is offering a competition to SEC colleges, a Doritos representative said.

“College kids are fans of Doritos, and they love concerts,” she said, “so it’s just mixing the two and creating a friendly competition.”

Jeff Klein, Frito-Lay senior marketing director, said college students are a great demographic to target for this contest because the voting process is done through Facebook, which is the best place to get their attention.

Because each school has different musical tastes, he said the $25,000 prize can be used to improve a previously scheduled concert or to create a brand new concert.

“What better way to reward the university who votes the most than with a concert on their own quad?” Klein said.

The amateur filmmakers created the 30-second commercials. The winning videographer will receive $1 million and an opportunity to work with Michael Bay on his new film, “Transformers 4.”

The video winner will be announced live at the Super Bowl, Klein said, and the winning college will be announced Jan. 30.

Erica Aguiar, a 20-year-old UF journalism sophomore, said has voted about five times already and would love to win a concert for her school.

“It’s so great to be able to hear a famous performer, essentially, in our backyard,” she said.
