The dean of the UF College of Arts will be stepping down from her position effective Jan. 1, 2024, according to an email sent Tuesday to faculty and staff by Interim Provost and Senior Vice President J. Scott Angle.

Onye Ozuzu has served as the dean of COTA since 2018, and executed several college-wide initiatives.

Some of her missions focused on strategic hiring of innovative and “change-making” faculty, growing research and philanthropic support for the college, launching the Center for Art, Migration and Entrepreneurship, and facilitating the college’s robust AI and Art initiatives.

Under Ozuzu’s leadership, the  faculty size expanded by 44%, the foundation’s annual fundraising grew from $1.6 million to $6 million and annual sponsored research funding surged from $102,000 to $2.3 million, according to the email.

“It has been an honor to serve as dean of this dynamic college over these last five years,” Ozuzu wrote. “Together, we have achieved impressive and meaningful progress and charted a steady course forward in the design and implementation of the College of the Arts Strategic Plan.”

Ozuzu will be joining the COTA faculty to teach with a focus on research.

Associate Dean Jenniffer Setlow has accepted the position of interim dean of COTA — effective Jan. 2, 2024.
