Steve Babik, the former Gators broadcaster who is facing child pornography charges, was released from police custody Tuesday and remains under electronically monitored home detention.
Babik plead not guilty to one count of receipt and distribution and one count of possession of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida.
Babik’s activity was discovered on his home computer during a monthlong investigation by the Gainesville Police Department, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI and the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
He’s facing five- to 10-years imprisonment, up to lifetime probation and a fine of $250,000 for the distribution charge. For possession, he faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, lifetime probation and another fine of $250,000, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Babik is scheduled to appear before a judge on March 1.
