Florent Diep sealed the deal for Florida in a clean sweep to extend its winning streak to six Friday with they 4-0 win against Tennessee.
The Gators (8-6, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) had no problem getting their momentum going against their Southeastern Conference rival. On the doubles court, Gators tandem Diego Hidalgo and Maxx Lipman also defeated their opponents 8-5.
Two minutes later, Mike Alford and Diep defeated Andrew Dronsky and Markus Kerner 8-5 to give Florida its first doubles point since Feb. 26 against Florida State.
"It was huge," coach Bryan Shelton said. "I just felt that if we got the doubles point we would be really tough to beat."
Gordon Watson and Elliot Orkin were the only duo to lose for the Gators, falling 8-4 to Mikelis Libietes and Hunter Reese.
In singles, Alford defeated Dronsky 6-4, 6-3 to stretch Florida's lead to two. Second to finish was Lipman, who won his match over Jarryd Chaplin 6-3, 6-4. To clinch the match for the Gators was none other than Diep. He defeated Libietis (UT) 6-3, 6-4.
Next up for Florida will be another SEC showdown against No. 16 Georgia on Sunday. Florida upset Georgia in its first meeting this season 4-2.
