Gainesville Police Officer J. Allen inspects the crashed car Monday night.

Gainesville Police are investigating a crash that happened Monday night on the corner of Southwest 38th Terrace and Hull Road.

A GPD officer pulled over a car with no tail lights Monday evening, GPD Spokesperson Jorge Campos said. The car stopped, but as the officer approached the car, it sped away.

Soon after, GPD received 911 calls reporting that the same car flipped into a ditch, Campos said. The callers told GPD they saw the driver fleeing from the scene, and officers searched for the driver. However, they were unable to find them.

An Alligator reporter on the scene observed officers searching the crash site with flashlights and police dogs. The car crashed through a fence, and the driver’s airbag appeared to be deployed.

The reporter also saw an officer inspecting an orange Nike shoe box.

Campos told The Alligator officers are currently investigating the case and cannot release further details.
