Charlie Jerome Bragg was arrested Wednesday on charges of attempted aggravated battery by reportedly using a pocket knife to threaten a woman waiting for a bus.
Bragg approached the woman as she was waiting for the bus, and after the woman told him not to touch her, Bragg “began acting erratic,” according to the arrest report.
Bragg then revealed a pocket knife and reportedly told the woman“tell whoever you got to, I’ll kill you.” The victim tried getting away from Bragg, who lunged at her with the knife in his hand.
According to the arrest report, the woman began to get on the bus that had just arrived, and blocked Bragg with her forearm, to protect herself from getting stabbed by his knife.
The bus driver closed the bus doors, locking Bragg out to prevent him from stabbing the woman.
According to the report, Bragg fled upon sight of the police vehicle, cutting between multiple houses and yards.
Bragg continued to run from law enforcement even after he was given “lawful commands to stop running multiple times,” according to the arrest report.
After Bragg was handcuffed, he admitted to pulling a knife out on the victim but said “he wasn’t going to do anything with it,” according to the arrest report.
Bragg also reportedly muttered the phrases “I’m sorry for what I did,” and “why I did that shit man,” while driving to the Alachua County Jail.
Bragg was arrested at the Rosa Parks Transfer Station and has no previous battery convictions.
