UF students and administrators aren’t giving up on efforts to save Norman Hall.

The UF College of Education hasn’t received any physical improvements, but students are lobbying in Tallahassee to fund renovations for the building, said Glenn Good, dean of the college.

UF Student Sen. Maddie McClinton (Independent, Education) launched a petition in October that got more than 900 signatures and hundreds of comments from past alumni who were surprised to hear of the building’s condition.

“Mainly, our goal was to have the student voice be heard,” McClinton said.

Gov. Rick Scott vetoed UF’s request for $8 million in funding for the building in June.

Matthew Hoeck, Student Government’s external affairs director, said students met with the Gator Caucus to voice concerns about the building’s state.

“We made clear that investing in Norman and UF is a making a statewide impact,” Hoeck said.

Good said despite Norman Hall’s crumbling walls, the College of Education continues to do good work.

“We hope that he hears that this year, and we’re grateful that the students are helping to communicate that to him as well,” Good said.
