Letter to the Editor

By Michael Ramsey, student senator

I'm not going to discuss whether online voting is constitutional or unconstitutional, but I think it is important to discuss why proponents of online voting want this form of voting to happen.

As stated in Wednesday's front-page article, people supporting online voting think it would double voter turnout - which it probably would - and many current senators would not have been elected.

In other words, online voting would cause drastic changes in the outcomes of the elections.

I find this belief to be further from the truth.

Actually, online voting would probably solidify that the same party wins each semester.

Elections are won by parties full of determined leaders, candidates and volunteers who share the same purpose.

Elections are won by individuals who are organized, unwavering and steadfast. Simply changing a voting process will not change any of the outcomes in any election - unless all of your party's support is from the laziest people on campus.

The only thing that can change the outcomes in elections is experience, hard work, determination and creativity.

I'm sorry for those of you who think online voting is the golden key to your problems because it's not going to unlock any door you want to get through.
