On Tuesday at 4:04 p.m., four Alachua County Fire Rescue units and one Gainesville Police Department unit were sent out to extract a driver from his vehicle after he lost control.
ACFR Battalion Chief Chad Winningham said the driver lost control of the vehicle before it rolled onto I-75 Westbound near the Bass Pro Shop.
“The vehicle winded up on its side and caused damage to the fence traffic sign,” Winningham said. “We needed to stabilize the vehicle with our rescue struts, we had to bring out our extrication equipment to cut the car apart [and] remove the occupant from the vehicle.”
The driver was extracted in 15 minutes, trauma alerted and taken to the hospital, according to an ACFR news release.
The driver was in stable condition when he was dropped off at the hospital. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
