Students and faculty evacuated Norman Hall twice Thursday after police say someone pulled fire alarms without reason.
The first false alarm sounded at about 11:30 a.m., said Maj. Brad Barber, public information officer for University Police.
Norman Hall was evacuated as soon as the alarm went off.
UPD and Gainesville Fire Rescue sent officials to the building to investigate the alarm but found no signs of a fire.
People were then allowed back into the building.
But at about 3 p.m., they were out the door again. Another fire alarm was set off, and people again evacuated the hall.
UPD and Gainesville Fire Rescue sent officials to the building for a second time that day but again found nothing.
"Both incidents were resolved relatively quickly, within 10 to 15 minutes," Barber said.
This is the third time someone has pulled a fire alarm at Norman Hall without cause in the past 10 days, Barber said.
On Nov. 8, people evacuated the building when someone pulled a fire alarm - again at about 3 p.m.
As with Thursday's false alarms, UPD and Gainesville Fire Rescue found no sign of a fire when they investigated.
"We will continue to investigate who has been activating these pull stations," Barber said.
Pulling a fire alarm without cause is punishable by Florida state statutes. The first conviction is a first-degree misdemeanor, and a subsequent conviction would be punishable as a third-degree felony.
